I will kill you, but you will laugh at my delivery.
Went and caught an advanced screening of Alien: Covenant at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline last night. My buddy Zane took me as his date, since his wife had no interest. My back hurt like a motherfucker, and the guy next to me had a dip cup that smelled like elephant asshole, but otherwise it was a fun experience.
So Covenant: First off, I feel like the pacing has issues, but I also feel like this has been the case with virtually every Ridley Scott movie ever. Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, Robin Hood - All good movies (well, maybe not Kingdom of Heaven), but all have terrible pacing. Hell, even Blade Runner took three tries to get just right.
But, that aside, the movie was enjoyable. Scott takes us back to a more horror driven story - though not completely. The characters were developed and I cared about a few of them, unlike Prometheus, where I cared for no one. I mean, why was Charlize Theron even there? She had no point.
The special effects were quite good, and Michael Fassbender did a great job in his dual role. Billy Crudup was weak, and I don't think right for the role, but all the other characters played well. The gore this time around was on point, and there was quite a bit of it - which I like. I look forward to the next installment, which is supposed to take us closer to the original.
All in all, it was a satisfying film, though not at all mind blowing. Check it out if you are in love with the franchise, wait to rent it if you don't mind waiting.
This has nothing to do with the post, just needed a picture.
I have taken my sweet time, but finally there is a website with my name on it gracing the internet. It is a humble little thing now, but it has room to grow like hand-me-down clothes. Please feel free to comment on anything, contact me anywhere, and just sort of hang about.
I am upset that Medium no longer allows merging of their feed into personal websites. I moved the last three blog posts over, but I guess the rest will just stay over there, in blog purgatory, waiting on someone who will never come.
Now off to try and type pretty words about ugly things. I'm about halfway done on the first draft of Behind the Red Curtain. I have a goal of finishing by the end of June, but we shall see.
