Full Blown Panic Attack
Thoughts, Movie Reviews, Book Reviews, Interviews
I am going to run down 10 monsters that I find fantastic. I am skipping the most obvious choices, though there may be a couple on here that some would call obvious. I may do more of these posts because it is actually a lot of fun rifling through my brain to find these beauties. Also, this is not a ranking and are listed in no particular order.
2. The Monster
3. Audrey 2
4. Crooked Man
6. Closet Monster
Inside the Closet is one of the most well known episodes from the Tales From the Darkside tv series, mostly due to this little guy. Designed by Tom Savini who also directed the episode. He is instantly both adorable and creepy. The episode itself is pretty basic. Woman rents a room and there is a little door. What’s behind the little door? This guy! Credits. There are many episodes that you can skip in this series, but don't let this be one of them.
Everyone knows that The Fly is an amazing movie, but just focusing in on the Brundlefly itself, there is very few films with better practical effects. The transition from the moment Jeff Goldblum gets a hair on his back, to the final pile of fucked up ooze that just wants to die, is so good. Most movies might show 3 iterations of a transitioning monster, but the Fly morphs a little every time we see him. He really is the definition of movie magic, and it is a shame that this art form has been relegated to direct to video indie films (no bashing of them at all, just would like to see it in mainstream flicks).
8. Pyramid Head
Big daddy Pinhead gets all the attention, but there are many Cenobites I could put on this list. I chose Chatterer for three reasons…he sounds creepy as shit, he has gone through the most changes, and there is a version that is a dog. Just a young boy when he opened the box and joined the Gash, the first version has no facial features save for the mouth, held open by hooks. Chatterer II actually had eyes and a nose, and wasn’t as cool. Chatterer III is basically a combo of the two and appeared in three different direct to video movies. Then, there is the dog, which never got much screen time.
And that's 10. I had a blast with this post, and am already coming up with ideas for another one. If you liked this, let me know, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.
