Annabelle: Creation (2017)
David F. Sandberg, director of Lights Out
I never got around to going to see this one in the theater, but finally rented it out of the REDBOX. I was not a fan of the first film, but heard lots of good things about this one. Critics loved it. People loved it. I remember reading a review saying that an Annabelle sequel has no business being this good.
Well, the short retort is….I don’t agree.
Let me say that I absolutely loath the use of CGI black smoke in horror movies. It is the ultimate cop-out to me. It is the easiest thing to pull off with computers and has been used so many times. It isn’t scary – it is just annoying. So fucking annoying! Editor’s Note: I realize that many of you probably don’t have hate for black smoke like I do…..but you should. It’s so lazy.
Speaking on the plot - it was good enough. We have Captain Geppetto making the ugliest dolls ever, married to the girl Aragorn never wanted. Their little girl gets face slammed by a car and fast forward. They open their house to some orphans knowing full well that years ago they let an evil join with a doll and pretend to be their daughter, causing the wife to lose an eye.
I understand that they thought Annabelle was locked away in their bible page room, but they apparently hid the key in the most obvious place ever. Even if they hadn’t seen the monster in a while, while the hell would they invite a bunch of people to live there? I know they claim it was to try and make up for their sins, but I don’t buy it. Sounds like some shady shit.
