My favorite thing about the series is when you think about behind the scenes and everything that Death is doing to fuck with the characters. Tony Todd, who shows up in a couple of quick scenes to sound menacing and give the characters a push, is (I think anyway) Death himself. He gives everyone the idea that they can win, knowing that they can’t. He makes their deaths as fucked as possible. He will let them live for months, thinking they have cheated death, only to kill them off. I even think that he gives the characters the visions just to have fun with them. The series is better than some of the entries in it and I think that can be attributed to the fay 5 brings it around full circle.
I can definitely recommend seeing this first installment unlike some of the others that you will read about in a minute.
The ending is spectacular and I didn’t see it coming. The two survivors decide to finally take that trip to Paris. As they are taking their seats on the plain, they see a fight break out up front, and a bunch of people escorted off, showing that they have taken flight 180, and all of this movie happened before the first one. My only gripe is that I wish the movie ended as soon as we find out instead of showing the explosion and such. Would have had more impact.
